The first and basic thing one can do for healthy long hair is to keep it scrupulously clean by shampooing regularly.

The correct procedure is to wet hair and start shampooing at the scalp where all the grease and dirt accumulates, and then gently massage the shampoo onto the lengths and ends of hair. While shampooing let the hair hang naturally working the lather from roots to the ends.

Never pile up your hair as this may entangle the hair. Instead divide your long hair into sections and gently massage each section from root to tips.

Do not rub the hair while you rinse out theshampoo, last let the water flow through your hair. Always rinse your hair in normal to cool water as warm water makes the hair dry and might damage your hair.

Make sure you rinse out the shampoo completely. Most shampoo’s are alkaline so if they are not rinsed out,it will dry out the hair, damage the cuticle layer of the hair and the and the end result is dry and damaged hair.

After rinsing your hair, towel dry your hair and apply the good conditioner on the lengths and ends as on long hair, the natural oil secreted on the scalp does not reach the full lengths and ends which makes it dry and rough.

Massage the conditioner onto the hair and comb through your hair with a wide tooth comb so as to evenly distribute the conditioner. Leave on the conditioner for the prescribed time according to the brand being used and then rinse it out thoroughly.

To remove the entangles in long hair comb through when the hair is wet, preferably when the conditioner is applied because if the hair is dried out tangled, it will be unmanageable and difficult to style.
